Artists and art connoisseurs mingle in the various galleries at the Springville Museum of Art during the museum's Super Ball XL in April 2006. The annual event marks the opening of the Spring Salon exhibit.

SPRINGVILLE — Robin Williams and Ben Stiller may not be there, but everyone else who is anyone at all is expected at the 41st annual Art Ball at the Springville Museum of Art.

A tradition that goes back four decades, the art ball is really a dress-up party for the community and celebrates the opening of the premier exhibit for Utah artists, the 83rd Spring Salon.

According to museum spokeswoman Natalie Peterson, the social extravaganza draws in more than 500 people each year for dinner, art, dancing and the crowning of the Art Queen royalty.

(The Art Queen and her attendants are selected based on interview skills and talent.)

This year's program features internationally recognized speaker/author Dan Clark, mezzo-soprano Ginger Costa-Jackson and woodwind master Darron Bradford.

There is also a communitywide scavenger hunt leading up to the ball with prize-winning free tickets. A treasure hunt during the ball will end with completed entries in a drawing for a grand prize giveaway. Local artists will have images from their best work displayed in a digital "Side Show Slideshow." Three of the young artists will be painting during the ball, also.

This year's Art Ball theme follows the ideas used in the recent movie where art literally came to life via an ancient Egyptian curse. High school drama guild members will choose various pieces of art and become the people in the work.

Throughout the evening there will also be live performances by local instrumental musicians: Kristiana Silver (cello), Deena Winters (piano), John Kovalenko (violin) and Darron Bradford/Bart Gibb combo (bass and woodwinds). Dancing in the step-down gallery will be accompanied by Robert Sabin's Moonlight Serenaders.

Gourmet food will be provided by Viking's Feast catering company. Featured menu items include; Peach and Mango glazed Chicken Tenders, Mandarin orange glazed pork tenders with focaccia toast, chocolate strawberries, fruit tarts and cheesecake. (To see a full menu, visit the museum Web site.)
