I just returned from walking my dog and spotted the article about Nugget, the dog who has chased away the U.S. Postal Service in his neighborhood (April 26). Unfortunately, when I walk my beagle I have been forced to carry an old tennis racket for defense against other people's beloved pets who are off leash. I love dogs, but they are animals and will behave as such. It is the legal responsibility of the dog owner to contain the animal. I am surprised at Mr. McGuire's flippant attitude toward the injured mailman. I am puzzled by his insensitivity to his neighbors plight. The bottom line is that there are leash laws in Salt Lake County for a good reason. Mr. McGuire needs to take responsibility and contain Nugget.
