For the last decade I have read Rainer Huck's whinings about not being able to drive all over public lands and rip up the terrain for his pleasure. I was pleased to read he has suddenly become an environmentalist.
In his letter (Readers' Forum, April 25), Rainer acknowledges that "the direct and indirect activities associated with these huge events generate massive amounts of carbon-based greenhouse gases." Since he is now aware of the damage that he and his fellow motor-heads are causing to not just the air, but the land, maybe they will rally behind our newest environmentalist and stop their actions. It would be nice to see the desert without the imprint left by their trucks and hear the solitude of vast open spaces.
