BYU has bestowed honorary degrees on six men who later became presidents of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints:

  • David O. McKay

  • Joseph Fielding Smith

  • Harold B. Lee

  • Spencer W. Kimball

  • Ezra Taft Benson

  • Gordon B. Hinckley

Of the 15 men who make up the current First Presidency and Quorum of the Twelve, 10 have honorary doctorates from BYU:

  • President Gordon B. Hinckley

  • President Thomas S. Monson

  • President James E. Faust

  • Elder Boyd K. Packer

  • Elder L. Tom Perry

  • Elder Russell M. Nelson

  • Elder Dallin H. Oaks

  • Elder M. Russell Ballard

  • Elder Joseph B. Wirthlin

  • Elder Jeffrey R. Holland

  • Elder Henry B. Eyring
