Three northern Utah hog farms, housing between 1,000 and 2,000 hogs, are under a "hold order" on the sale or transportation of any of their remaining animals. The Utah Department of Agriculture and Food:
Is working to verify whether the farms fed their animals contaminated feed. Test results are expected next week.
Has initiated a "trace forward" search to determine how many of the hogs have been sent to market.
Said it has no scientific information about the melamine levels in pork that may cause adverse health effects in humans. However, it said the health risks associated with consuming pork from animals that had eaten melamine are "believed to be minimal."
