An Orem man died early Saturday evening while riding his ATV with friends in Sanpete County.

The man, 24, was coming down out of Wales Canyon in the San Pitch Mountains west of Moroni at the time of the accident. He may have been going too fast when his ATV careened about 40 feet down a steep hill, according to Sanpete County sheriff's deputy John Cox.

The accident, he added, was still under investigation Saturday night.

Cox did not want to release the man's identity until all family members had been notified. The man was pronounced dead at the scene. No one else was involved in the accident.
