House OKs a 4th seat for Utah

D.C. would get full-voting member; Bishop vents anger over process

She said it makes no sense for a president with troops in the field -including men and women from the District of Columbia - to veto this bill.

Cannon agreed that the president is not going to veto the bill. He also said Utah's senators are committed to getting this done as well. Cannon and Rep. Tom Davis, R-Va., said they will meet with the senators to discuss the bill.

"We understand we have two mountains to climb and we have strategies to get over both humps," Davis said, adding that he did not want to discuss publicly everything they have in mind on how to get the bill through.

In the meantime, supporters had a party Thursday night although some were already working on getting this through the next hoop.

"Today we celebrate a hard-fought victory and roll up our sleeves for the Senate," Ilir Zherka, Executive Director of DC Vote, a voting rights advocacy group. "We will have a battle in the Senate, but we have democracy on our side."
