PASADENA, Calif. — When it comes to "reality" shows, my long-held belief is that adults can do any stupid thing they want, but when children are involved you have to be careful what lines you cross.

It's bad enough that so many parents put their underage children on TV and subject them to criticism and ridicule, but how do you defend the possibility of putting them in harm's way?

If you're Sandra Scott, star of "Wife, Mom, Bounty Hunter," you defend your choices by raising the possibility that your teenage daughter might shoot somebody.

I am not making this up.

"Wife, Mom, Bounty Hunter" (tonight at 7 and 10 on cable/satellite channel WE) is, well, yet another show about a bounty hunter. And, while this one adds the angle that (you guessed it!) this particular bounty hunter is also a wife and mother, it's still pretty much more of the same.

Ho, hum.

It's not that life as a bounty hunter isn't exciting. It's downright dangerous, as Scott — a one-time pro wrestler — readily admits. Asked what her most dangerous assignment was, she was a bit nonplussed. "There's so many. Where do I start?" she replied to a question posed by a TV critic back in January.

Part of being a bounty hunter — part of being able to catch criminals who have jumped bail — is the ability to get close to them. One would think that being on TV would make that more difficult. And, perhaps, more dangerous for both the bounty hunter and her family.

"I don't worry about the safety of my children because they are not involved in any way in my profession. Zero," Scott said.

But by becoming so public, isn't there at least a possibility that one of the criminals she brought in (or their pals) might see her on TV and come after her? And what if the bad guys see her kids on TV, too?

"I don't have that problem. And so far so good," Scott said.

Then, nodding toward her 15-year-old daughter, Sabree, she added, "We do have guns in the house, and she does know how to shoot them."

So beware, bad guys! Don't show up at Scott's home because her 15-year-old daughter will shoot you!

I am not making this up.

WALK THE PLANK: Ahoy, mateys! CBS is headed out to sea with a reality series about pirates.
