Hogle Zoo is throwing a "Party for the Planet" for its Earth Day celebration Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Salt Lake City Mayor Rocky Anderson will speak at noon in the main plaza about community efforts that make a difference globally. And live entertainment, including Polynesian dancers, will be featured throughout the zoo's grounds.
"Visitors can participate in hands-on activities like making recycled paper," said Song Stott, special events coordinator, "plus visit booths to sample local foods or learn about hybrid cars, all in the name of conservation."
In conjunction with the Association of Zoos and Aquariums, Hogle Zoo is one of 141 zoos and aquariums in 42 states and countries throwing a "Party for the Planet."
Guests can receive $1 off admission that day by bringing in 12 aluminum cans or one old cell phone.
