Warning signs in Virginia Tech rampage

November 2005: A female student complains to police about Cho Seung-Hui's behavior.

Dec. 12, 2005: A second female student notifies police about his behavior.

English professor shares her concerns about Cho with campus police but no official report is filed.

Police speak with Cho's acquaintances and become concerned that he is suicidal. They suggest he speak to a counselor.

He voluntarily speaks to a counselor.

Dec. 13, 2005: A magistrate orders Cho to undergo an evaluation at the Carilion Saint Albans Behavioral Health Center, a private psychiatric facility.

Magistrate signs order after initial evaluation that finds Cho is danger to himself or others as a result of mental illness.

Dec. 14, 2005: Doctors at Carilion conduct further examination. Special court justice Paul M. Barrett approves outpatient treatment.
