A 43-year-old woman was arrested this week by West Valley police for investigation of attempted homicide on her 16-year-old daughter.
The woman and her daughter got into an argument over housecleaning chores, said West Valley police Capt. Tom McLachlan. The mother then struck her daughter with a metal ruler, he said.
Following a struggle, the mother then attempted to smother her daughter with a pillow, McLachlan said.
After their fight, the mother left to go to a meeting. Her daughter called her brother, who picked her up and took her to the police station.
Officers went back to the house, where they found the mother. She was taken to the hospital for treatment of unspecified medical problems, McLachlan said, then booked into the Salt Lake County Jail for investigation of child abuse and attempted homicide.
