Utah/BYU

SOFTBALL: Utah (20-15-1, 1-3 Mountain West) hosts its home opener this weekend when as the Utes welcome in-state and conference rival Brigham Young to Ute Field for a two-game series. The first game is set for 4 p.m., Friday, with the second game slated for Saturday at 1 p.m. This weekend's slate launches a seven-game homestand for Utah that extends over the next two weekends.

BYU

TRACK AND FIELD: BYU's Josh Rohatinsky and Jennifer Grossarth were named Mountain West Conference Athletes of the Week for their performance at the Weber State meet and the Texas Relays, respectively.

Rohatinsky has competed only twice in 2007, and both times has set a new facility record. At the Wildcat Outdoor Open on Saturday, Rohatinsky's first meet of the outdoor season, he set a new Weber State Stewart Stadium record of 3:46.59 in the 1500 meters. Rohatinsky's time is the third best time in the nation.

Grossarth ran a career-best time in the 400 hurdles at the Texas Relays to put her in seventh place in the nation in the event with a time of 58.35. Grossarth finished with the sixth fastest time out of 65 competitors at the prestigious meet.

TENNIS: BYU's Anastasia Surkova and her teammates will look to remain undefeated in conference play in San Diego this weekend. BYU will face San Diego State on Friday and UNLV on Saturday. SDSU and UNLV are both 4-1 in conference play and are tied for second with TCU. One win will earn BYU at least a share of the regular-season title, and two wins will ensure the regular-season championship.

Southern Utah

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: Bingham's Stephanie Sampson completes what head coach Steve Hodson is calling SUU's "Fab 5" of signees as the state's 5A MVP submitted her national letter of intent to play for the Thunderbirds next season. She joins 4A MVP Jaime Sagers of Orem High and all-state selection Caitlyn Sears of Lone Peak High to round out the in-state additions.

TRACK AND FIELD: SUU will return to California for the third time this outdoor season for competition at the Azusa Pacific Invitational and the Mt. SAC Relays this weekend.

Dixie State

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Dixie State women's basketball team has announced the addition of two players for the 2007-08 season: Jessica Jones (Natomas HS, Sacramento) and Sammi Griffiths (Valley High in Orderville, Utah)..
