Salt Lake City Police Chief Chris Burbank says his department's homicide detectives and FBI agents have been building a profile of Sulejman Talovic, attempting to trace experiences and other factors that may have influenced him before his murderous Feb. 12 attack at Trolley Square.
Possible factors:
He was a loner.
His childhood in war-torn Bosnia.
Being a refugee and immigrant to the U.S.
Trying to fit into a new culture
The language barrier.
Probable non-factors:
Little access to computers and the Internet.
No video game system at home.
No gang links.
No known terrorism ties.
Editor's Note: The early life of Sulejman Talovic in Bosnia and the possible impact of the war on the young killer and his family will be detailed in a special report, "Roots of murder," in Sunday's Deseret Morning News.
