No to cell-phone ban

I say an emphatic "no" to making it illegal to drive while talking on a cell phone. I use a hands-free headset with my cell phone and keep uppermost in my mind that I'm driving. That means I pay attention to the road and the traffic, do not have my neck cocked at a funny angle, and don't have one hand occupied with the phone. I question the validity of studies that say people respond the same way as drunken drivers when talking on cell phones and driving. Talking is not an impairment. With a hands-free cell phone, the person driving is no more distracted than if he or she were talking to a passenger. Are we going to make that illegal, too?

As citizens, we all have the responsibility to be considerate of how our behavior affects those around us. If more people would do that, fewer people would be trying to tell the rest of us how to live.
