AMERICAN FORK — A pregnant 17-year-old girl who allegedly helped two other pregnant teens assault and rob their caretaker has been taken into custody by the American Fork Police Department.

The girl was arrested in Chicago, her hometown, while she was visiting her grandmother. A neighbor saw her and called the police, said American Fork Police Sgt. Shauna Greening. After the girl was taken into custody, her mother voluntarily agreed to extradite her daughter to Utah, Greening said.

The girl, who Greening says is about seven months pregnant, arrived in Utah March 29 and has since been transported to the Slate Canyon Detention Center in Provo.

Police say the girl is one of three teens who attacked a caretaker and another girl at the New Hope Maternity Home in American Fork in January.

The girls allegedly hit Jana Moody on the head with a frying pan. Police said the girls then tied up the other girl, stole Moody's credit cards and van and fled the state, Greening said.

A 16-year-old girl, who was also allegedly involved in the assault, was taken into custody by the police department shortly after the incident. The native Californian turned herself in. At the time of the incident, the girl was 15.

Police are still looking for a 15-year-old girl from Texas who is believed to have been involved in the attack.
