Thomas quite a saleswoman

We were thrilled to see the front-page article on Lillie Thomas and her store in Sterling (April 2). As many of those who travel the historic roads of Utah know, she and her store are one of the hidden landmarks of the state. It has been spotlighted in several travel and auto enthusiast magazines, and her personal character is known by many outside of the state.

One thing the article didn't touch on is her prowess as a saleswoman. At the counter, you were often asked "You sure you don't need some more bread? You sure you don't need some more treats?" If you had your kids with you, you were dead; you just opened your wallet and found a way to exit with some gas money home — if she didn't get that also. My nearly-grown children still beg to stop.
