Cedar Hills City Council approves plan for Wal-Mart

CEDAR HILLS — City Council members in Cedar Hills voted unanimously Tuesday night to approve a preliminary site plan for a Wal-Mart super center.

The controversial decision came at 10:45 p.m. to a lingering audience after three hours of public comment and discussion slowly diminished the initial crowd of about 150 people.

Discussion about the store centered around Wal-Mart's projected sound and traffic impacts and how to minimize the store's impact on neighbors.

Residents who spoke in the meeting expressed a mixed opinion in favor and against the proposed 132,000-square-foot store.

Those who opposed the store said they are concerned about the size of the building and the impact that having a Wal-Mart in the community could have.

Officials for the store, which is proposed to be located at 4800 West and Cedar Hills

Drive, must now receive a conditional-use permit for the location and final site plan approval before construction can begin.
