LIGETY WINS: Ted Ligety won the giant slalom at the U.S. Alpine Championships in Girdwood, Alaska, on Tuesday for his fifth national title and second this week.
Ligety led after the first run and finished with a combined time of 2 minutes, 22.34 seconds, more than two seconds better than Will Brandenburg, who finished at 2:24.66. He also won the combined at Alyeska Resort on Sunday.
Bode Miller was in second place after the first run but did not ski the second. Ligety said Miller may not have been feeling well, but he was surprised when the 2005 World Cup overall champion didn't complete the race. Cody Marshall (2:24.78) finished third.

ULLRICH SAMPLES: A DNA sample taken from former Tour de France champion Jan Ullrich has been matched to blood bags seized in the Spanish doping scandal, German prosecutors said Tuesday.
"We found nine blood samples that we were able to compare with the blood samples," Friedrich Apostel, a spokesman for prosecutors in Bonn, said during a television interview. "We were able to establish the identity of Ullrich."
