I'm doing something I've never done before walking my neighborhood with a petition in hand. Our state Legislature, once again ignoring public opinion, has passed legislation allowing public education dollars to go toward private schools.
I've been more than a casual observer of public education. I served a 16-year stretch as an elected member of the Granite School District Board of Education (1972-88) and, until recently, a member of the Utah State Board of Education. I was dismayed to see the school voucher program pushed upon the public.
I urge your readers to sign the petition.
