AVALANCHE TRAINING EVENT
In a continuing effort to promote avalanche awareness, Wasatch Backcountry Rescue is holding its third-annual avalanche beacon hunt, called Beacon and Eggs, on Saturday at Snowbird and Solitude.
The championship round will take place on April 7 at Snowbird. Similar events are scheduled at other ski resorts throughout the western United States.
Several avalanche beacons will be buried in a one-acre area. The tracker beacons will be wrapped in a protective pad to simulate the feel of a buried victim and placed below the snow surface. Participants will then try to locate the beacons.
The Saturday event is free and open to all those with a beacon, probe and shovel who want to test their skills.
Registration is from 7 to 8 a.m. The event will begin at 8:15 a.m.
