Utah introduced Jim Boylen as its new basketball coach Tuesday, giving the former Michigan State assistant a five-year contract and the belief that he can turn around a program that has posted two consecutive losing seasons.
"This is a dream come true for me," Boylen said in a statement before a news conference at the Huntsman Center.
Boylen, who turns 42 in April, replaces Ray Giacoletti, who resigned under pressure after three seasons.
It is his first job as a head coach after two years as chief assistant at Michigan State and 13 seasons as an assistant in the NBA.
Utah said Boylen will be paid $575,000 a year for base salary, radio and TV appearances and basketball camps.
"We're excited to have Jim as our new head coach," athletic director Chris Hill said.
