Two local Asian businesses, the National JACL Credit Union and the Asian Association of Utah will be recognized at the Utah Asian Chamber of Commerce's second annual Awards Gala, 6 to 11 p.m. March 31 at the Hilton Salt Lake City Center, 255 S. West Temple.
The credit union, Taiwan Imports and Cafe Trang Restaurant will receive the chamber's Outstanding Asian Business Award, honoring businesses that have demonstrated longevity and business success, product/service excellence and community service.
The Asian Association of Utah will receive the chamber's Outstanding Asian Community Builder award, honoring 30 years of community service to minorities and refugees. Founded in 1977, the association serves the populations of Asians, Pacific Islanders, Eastern Europeans, Russians, Africans and Middle Eastern countries. Over three decades, it has placed 6,000 people in jobs, provided 35,000 hours of counseling, diverted 1,500 individuals from incarceration and provided more than 200,000 hours of interpretation for families.
