Questions about the recall of 60 million containers of potentially deadly pet food:

Question: What has been recalled?

Answer: Menu Foods has recalled "cuts and gravy" style pet food packaged from Dec. 3 through March 6. The products are contract-made for nearly 100 national brands of pet food. There is no recall for dry pet food.

Question: Why was the recall issued??

Answer: The recalled food has been blamed for kidney failure in scores of animals and killed at least 16 pets.

Question: What are some symptoms?

Answer: Symptoms include loss of appetite, loss of energy, diarrhea, vomiting and excessive thirst or urination.

Question: What should I do if I notice these symptoms??

Answer: Contact the pet's veterinarian immediately. A simple blood and urine test can determine whether the pet has been affected. If so, the problem can be treated if caught early.

Question: What are pet stores recommending??

Answer: Pet stores have removed the recalled food and have been recommending other kinds of wet or dry food. Some pet stores have also suggested supplements to help pets make the switch to different food.
