S. Virginia tabs Utahn to coach football

Southern Virginia University has named Mike Smith, a former Utah high school football coach, as its head football coach.

Smith, a former Dixie High and Copper Hills head coach, will continue to serve as assistant athletic director over recruiting and as Knights' offensive coordinator.

"Mike is a great football coach, a great leader, and his excitement and enthusiasm for this university are contagious," athletic director Tom Longenecker said.
