SEBEWAING, Mich. (AP) An 18-year-old mother and her grandfather died in a house fire after she led her young son to safety and apparently returned to the burning building for her grandfather, a relative said.
Savanah M. Zimmerman and Kenneth R. Dutcher Sr., 83, died Friday in Sebewaing, about 110 miles north of Detroit, Kenneth R. Dutcher Jr. told The Bay City Times. Zimmerman's 3-year-old son, Raymond, was not seriously injured.
"They found Savanah and dad in my dad's bedroom," Dutcher said.
Savanah Zimmerman had helped care for her grandfather, who was diabetic and had dementia, Dutcher said. Her sister and mother also lived at the home but were not there at the time of the fire.
