Winners and losers

Winner: Rep. Aaron Tilton and Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. for sponsoring and signing the new school clubs bill, which codifies requiring parental consent for students' participation in extracurricular school clubs and seems to strike a good balance. It neither forbids gay clubs nor overrides local school boards' power to determine fitness of clubs.

Loser: The Deseret Morning News for its push to felonize animal abuse, thereby seeming to join the People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals types in their efforts to establish that animals are as important as people.
