COST's ideas, as presented by Lucy Gibson, a national transportation planner based out of Vermont, are to have tree-lined boulevards and arterial connections that require less speed from drivers. Gibson, who worked as a consultant for a citizens' group who protested against the Legacy highway, also spoke about the need to implement mass transit options into road plans.

Gibson said she does not have specific road designs yet, but her study is not yet completed.

"In the past 50 years, most traffic engineers have built streets for vehicle mobility and you end up with an unattractive environment," Gibson said. "But we can also build streets that are beautiful and still carry a lot of traffic. It's all in what you're designing for."

All of Lehi's City Council members, as well as Mayor Howard Johnson and a council member from Saratoga Springs, attended the meeting, but none of the officials voiced support directly for or against the road or COST. Instead, the officials encouraged residents to continue to be involved and passionate about the issue.

"Don't lose the emotion," Lehi Councilman Mark Johnson told the audience. "I applaud you for that. Regardless of the decisions that are made, please lobby your state reps, and lobby UDOT, but be kind, because we need UDOT."

During the meeting, COST collected petition signatures and encouraged residents to attend tonight's UDOT meeting on the Mountain View Corridor. The meeting will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. at Sego Lily Elementary, 550 E. 900 North, Lehi.
