I found several statements in Dr. Joseph Q. Jarvis' My View (March 11) disconcerting. He claims "most" of the cancer cases in Utah over the past 50 years would have happened even if no open-air testing had ever occurred.
Is he asserting that exposure to radiation does not cause cancer? That radiation causes cancer is a long established fact with plenty of long-term research to back it up. You can also examine the public health records of people who lived in downwind areas.
If Dr. Jarvis is so certain above-ground testing does not cause the cancer, perhaps he'd be willing to expose his friends and family to the same radiation levels downwinders experienced.
I don't care what Larry Miller names his stadium. What I do care about is being asked to accept on good faith that EnergySolutions' operations will not cause health problems.
