When a proposed nuclear-bomb test in the Nevada desert was defeated by public outcry, he celebrated it as a victory for the people. But when the people spoke against the stadium, that was another matter; they couldn't possibly understand such a complex issue the way he could. Or his wife, whatever. The Guv will heed the will of the people — as long as it's his will.

People just won't let it go. In a poll that was published in Monday's Deseret Morning News, 65 percent of Salt Lake County residents said they would sign a petition to repeal the use of public money for Dave's Big Soccer Stadium, and 63 percent said the Guv and the Legislature shouldn't have approved the deal in the first place.

Weeks after the Legislature voted to support Dave's Big Soccer Stadium, a grass-roots organization called "Get Real Utah" started collecting signatures for a petition to put the issue on the ballot.

Little People still write letters to the editor, such as this one: "I am furious with Gov. Jon Huntsman Jr. for his high-handed maneuver of taking Salt Lake County tax money for the Real soccer team when 70 percent of county taxpayers said 'no' to paying for a stadium."

Next thing you know, someone will suggest that people NOT vote for the Guv and Friends the next time they run for office or VOW NEVER TO SET FOOT INSIDE DAVE'S BIG SOCCER STADIUM.

But I would never suggest that. I'm counting on the Guv and his wife and legislative pals to tell us what to do.
