LaVarr Webb, in his portion of "UEA is powerful force in Utah politics" (March 11), has some incorrect information.
The UEA does not represent "some 18,000 of Utah's teachers." It represents all of the teachers members or not.
I know of no UEA-sponsored walkouts that were "disorganized." I was part of the 1970 walkout. It was well-organized and well-supported by educational personnel and parents.
It was not "organized into a union." It was organized as an association of professional educators. Hence Utah Education Association.
The UEA has been suffering defeats from our Republican-dominated Legislature for many years with cuts in funding and strange requirements. Education is the lifeblood of democracy. Money is the lifeblood of education.
