The new City Hall, located about 1900 S. 2000 West, will have a main lobby, which will help direct residents to the office they need instead of one service window. It will also feature a privately operated post office, where residents can buy stamps and mail packages, but it likely won't sell money orders, Worthen said.
North Salt Lake is also faced with cramped quarters, said city manager Collin Wood. Within the next three months, the city will commission a feasibility study to determine the best route to solve the problem. He expects that the city will have measures in place either an addition, renovation or new building within two years.
In November, Farmington voters approved a $3.75 million general-obligation bond to pay for a new police department and expand City Hall from 7,800 square feet to 14,000 square feet.
The city is currently negotiating on land to build the new police station, said Mayor Scott Harbertson. Work should start this summer, and work on the City Hall may not happen until 2008, he said.
"It's a matter of working towards it," Dixon said. "We can't afford to do it now. We can't afford not to do it now."
