Eagle Mountain official under investigation for possible improper gift

EAGLE MOUNTAIN — Eagle Mountain city officials are investigating whether City Councilman David Blackburn improperly accepted a gift from a vendor in the city without publicly disclosing his actions.

The probe was confirmed today by Eagle Mountain spokeswoman Linda Peterson.

Blackburn, however, was chosen Tuesday night, with a 4-1 vote, to act as Eagle Mountain's temporary mayor at meetings where Mayor Don Richardson cannot be present.

At the meeting, fellow Councilman David Lifferth objected to the vote,

saying it is possible that Blackburn could be removed from office for his

actions.

Lifferth also said he is frustrated that the city has not completed

an investigation sooner.

Richardson said the investigation is taking some time.

"We are working through this issue to make sure both sides are seen,"

Richardson said. "We should have some answers here pretty soon."

Blackburn refuted Lifferth's statements, but did not elaborate on the

accusations.

"I have not done anything wrong," Blackburn said. "My vote has never been bought or purchased, nor have I acted in an inappropriate manor."
