Female filmmakers, artists, economists, scholars and writers will come together for the University of Utah's Women's Week Celebration next week to explore the changing map of motherhood.

Taking place March 9-15, the celebration will feature events ranging from art shows to speeches and movies to monologues.

Authors Julianne Malveaux and Susan Douglas will deliver the keynote addresses on March 14 at noon and March 15 at 7 p.m. in the Olpin Union Salt Air Room, respectively. Prior to Malveaux's address, the Women's Week Committee and the U.'s Presidential Commission on the Status of Women will present the 9th annual Linda K. Amos Award to Kathy Brook, former director of the U. Women's Resource Center.

An art show featuring the work of Alice Perrault will be on display throughout the week in the Bailey Exhibition Hall of the College of Architecture. Perrault's work focuses on her experience as a mother of a 6-year-old son born with quadriplegic cerebral palsy and epilepsy.

"Mother Superior," one of the 71 short films chosen for this year's Sundance Film Festival, will be screened March 9, 7 p.m. in the Olpin Union Theater. The movie, which explores the impact of methamphetamine use among women with children in Utah, will be followed by a discussion with its makers, Alex Mack and Diana Montero.

Women's Week will also present the "Mommy Monologues," a production exploring a wide range of experiences related to motherhood within contexts of race, ethnicity, class, gender, sexuality and religion. The "Monologues" will be performed March 12, 7 p.m. in the Utah Museum of Fine Arts auditorium.
