AT UTAH ...

2004-05: After a slow start, the Utes reel off 18 straight victories and win the MWC title with a 13-1 record. Andrew Bogut is MWC player of the year and Marc Jackson is a first-team all-MWC selection. In the NCAA tournament, the Utes defeat UTEP and Oklahoma before losing to Kentucky in the Sweet 16 to finish at 29-6. Bogut is a first-team all-American and the consensus national college player of the year.

2005-06: Before the season starts, Justin Hawkins and Richard Chaney transfer and recruit Misha Radojevic blows out his knee. The Utes go 7-4 in nonconference play but get blown out of three games. In league play, the Utes suffer losing streaks of four and five games and finish 6-10. After an upset win over BYU in the MWC tournament, the Utes lose to Wyoming and finish 14-15, the first losing season in 17 years.

2006-07: A promising season quickly goes south, with three straight losses to open the season. The Utes show life with easy wins over future top 25 teams Washington State and Virginia but finish the preseason 5-8. The Utes begin MWC play with four straight losses but bounce back to beat No. 13 Air Force. Heading into the final regular-season game at BYU, the Utes are 11-17 and Giacoletti resigns.
