Blazers GM gets no new deal, quits

Portland Trail Blazers president and general manager Steve Patterson abruptly resigned Thursday after owner Paul Allen refused to renew his contract.

The move came with the Trail Blazers in next-to-last place at 24-34, a season after they had the worst record in the NBA.

Tod Leiweke, chief executive officer of the Seattle Seahawks, will take over while a full-time replacement is found.

WADE'S SESSION DELAYED: Heat guard Dwyane Wade will have to wait another day for his second opinion. Wade was scheduled to have noted specialist Dr. James Andrews examine his dislocated left shoulder on Thursday, but severe weather kept Andrews from making the trip from Birmingham, Ala., to South Florida. Andrews' visit has been rescheduled for Friday.

SNOWBOARDER RADMANOVIC FINED: Vladimir Radmanovic's snow job will cost him some cold cash. The Los Angeles Lakers fined Radmanovic an undisclosed amount Thursday for violating his contract by snowboarding, which led to a separated shoulder injury, the team said. Radmanovic got hurt on Feb. 17, when he was in Park City, during the All-Star break. He is expected to miss two months.

CARNEY DAY TO DAY: Philadelphia 76ers rookie forward Rodney Carney has a torn rotator cuff and labrum in his right shoulder. Carney, listed as day-to-day, had an MRI exam Thursday that revealed the tear.
