MEMPHIS, Tenn. The Jazz on Tuesday waived rookie forward Louis Amundson, whose second 10-day contract with the club would have expired after Wednesday's game at Memphis.
Amundson, a University of Nevada-Las Vegas product who spent the preseason with Sacramento, was with Utah for seven games.
He played in only one, however, logging two minutes and going scoreless while making his NBA debut in last Saturday's win over Boston.
Reason for the move, which came on the same day the club left for a three-game trip that ends Sunday at Oklahoma City: "I didn't want to get locked into (using up a roster spot)," Jazz basketball operations senior vice president Kevin O'Connor said.
If the Jazz had wanted to retain Amundson, they would have according to NBA rules had to re-sign him for the remainder of the season on Thursday. They are allowed to bring him back at some later date, but even then they would have to make the deal good for the rest of the season.
The Jazz won't immediately replace Amundson on their roster, but will take some time to ponder options available.
"We would take a look and see (who's out there)," O'Connor.
Meanwhile, the Jazz continue to lean toward waiving recently acquired big man Alan Henderson. They had no plans to make the transaction happen today, but the move could come as early as Thursday.
