A bill that gives the state $3.5 million to study fixes to east-west roads in Salt Lake County, in addition to general road improvements in Davis, Utah and Weber counties, passed 70-0 out of the House Monday.
HB108 was originally intended to give just $1.5 million to the Utah Department of Transportation to study east-west roads in Salt Lake County. It was amended in the Senate to add $2 million to study roads in other counties.
The bill passed with little debate. Sponsoring Rep. Ron Bigelow, R-West Valley, said in an earlier interview that east-west traffic was one of the worst traffic problems in Salt Lake County, and that the bill would be a small step to give the state an idea about what fixes could be made to relieve congestion.
