Rasmussen said the Miners have had their challenges this season, but his captains have rallied the players and kept them focused on their ultimate goal — a 5A title.

"We made a goal to come and bring everything we have," Sampson said. "This is our last shot. It's always sad to leave, but this is definitely the way to go out."

This is the first 5A girls basketball title for Bingham and Rasmussen since 1995. Skyline finished the season with just two losses, something their coach hopes they will appreciate after the sting of losing fades.

"Time just has to heal how this feels right now," said Eagles head coach Deb Bennett. "They have everything to be proud of. It just doesn't feel like that right now."

She praised the Miners' effort and game plan.

"Bingham was just more disciplined," she said. "They controlled the tempo, which was in their favor.... Bingham has done this all year. Credit Rand. They have 10 players who can go out and score. They deserve to be state champions."
