In other 5A Tournament Games:

AMERICAN FORK 59, RIVERTON 49: Behind Haley Holmstead's stellar performance, American Fork notched an upset win to open the 5A state tournament. Holmstead finished with a game-high 26 points and anchored her team at both ends.

Kaycee Mansfield added 10 points for the Cavemen, who pressured Riverton into several mistakes in the second half.

Alle Finch led the Silverwolves with 14 points, and star forward Amanda Hansen added 12 points. She had several good offensive rebounds, as well.

DAVIS 49, JORDAN 40: The fourth-ranked Darts did enough to get into the quarterinals of the 5A state tournament. Leading by two points at halftime, Davis pulled away in the third quarter.

Dani Hosking led the way offensively for Davis, pouring in a game-high 20 points. Talented sophomore Allison Blake added 11 points.

Meanwhile, Jordan was paced by Elizabeth Gustafson and Julianne Egbert. They had 12 points and 10 points, respecively. Egbert missed most of the third quarter with foul trouble, which hurt the Beetdiggers offensively.

SKYLINE 57, WEBER 41: Weber, seeded fourth from Region 1, gave top-ranked Skyline all it could handle, but the Eagles pulled away in the fourth quarter. Skyline began that period on a 16-2 run, making its final advantage seem much bigger than it really was for most of the day.

Junior center Dani Peterson paced the Eagles with 21 points and guard Jenteal Jackson added 17.

Emily Mueller led Weber offensively with 16 points. Cassi O'Dell added13 points.

TIMPANOGOS 52, KEARNS 49: The Cougars valiantly overcame a 17-point deficit in the second half, but Timpanogos outlasted them down the stretch to advance in the tournament.

Rochelle Tialavea, who finished with 24 points, hit a three-pointer with just seconds remaining to put Kearns within a point, but Timpanogos' Cali Nelson hit two free throws to put the game out of reach for the Cougars.

Nelson finished with a team-high 24 points, and Megan Bishop added 17.

For Kearns, sophomore Brooke Larsen added 16 points and played a huge role in the second-half comeback attempt.

BINGHAM 51, PLEASANT GROVE 29: The Miners depth was just too much for the Vikings to handle as the second-ranked Miners easily earned the first-round playoff win. The Miners had just one player in double digits, Stephanie Sampson, who finished with 10 points, but 11 of the players who stepped on the floor scored for the co-region 3 champions. Nicole Yazzie added eight points, while Erika Newbold finished with seven and Justine Bates scored six points.

The Vikings were led offensively by Aimee Dorais, who finished with seven points and Krystal Carter, Debbie Ireland, Kristy Giles and Sarah Clement, who scored four points each.

The win means Bingham moves on to face the winner of the Layton/Brighton game, which was the last game of the night.
