Lugano Restaurant's chef/owner Greg Neville has been invited to present a dinner at the James Beard House in New York City on March 14. The James Beard Foundation (named in honor of cookbook author James Beard) promotes the culinary world, inviting distinguished chefs from around the country to cook for its members. Funds raised from the dinners support the group's awards and scholarship programs.

Neville's dinner will feature cuisine from the Veneto Region of Italy. He's giving Utahns a chance to preview the planned menu on March 6, at Lugano, 3364 S. 2300 East. Price is $55 per person with optional Italian wine pairing. Reservations required (412-9994 or luganorestaurant.com).

Five Star Cuisine, 3661 S. Redwood Road, is celebrating its opening with Chinese New Year. From now through March 15, the restaurant serves a special dinner in honor of The Year of The Boar. The dinner is $15 per person. The restaurant serves regional dishes from Guangzhou, China, and offers traditional Chinese dim sum. Some of the restaurant's dishes include Lucky Chicken Dumplings, Salt Baked Pork Spareribs, Firecracker Noodles, Lemon Chicken, Imperial Beef, Sizzling Cracked Pepper Shrimp and Pineapple Fried Rice.

T.G.I. Friday's restaurants plan to be in compliance with New York City trans fat guidelines by July. The New York City guidelines call for the elimination of all oils, margarines and shortenings, in addition to partially fried items that contain more than a half-gram of trans fat per serving. The announcement was made by Mike Archer, president and chief operating officer of T.G.I. Friday's USA.
