Book on memory created for LDS readers
Written by David Larsen, "How to Remember Everything in the New Testament and General Conference" is a companion work to "How to Remember Everything in the Old Testament." Both books are published by Cedar Fort Inc. in Springville.
Larsen examines memorizing techniques, natural memory, how the mind works and how "learning by the spirit" enhances memory.
He also discusses how nutrition and exercise heightens retention.
One chapter, written by co-writer Brett Benson, "Teaching as Jesus Taught," explains the steps used by the master teacher.
"I came up with the idea 10 years ago on how to remember everything in the Book of Mormon," Larsen said.
He presented the manuscript to editors in 2005, who suggested he rewrite it to feature the Old Testament and match the lesson content in LDS Gospel Doctrine classes. This time around he rewrote that book and added more information on teaching to correspond with New Testament Gospel Doctrine classes.
Another rewrite is due out next year which will feature his original idea of remembering concepts taught in the Book of Mormon.
Larson, who lives in Layton with his family, received his master's degree in family and human development from Utah State University and for seven years served as a chaplain in the U.S. Navy and Marine Corps and then as a Family Life Programs manager for the Air Force. He recently served as director of the Organizational Health and Consulting Office at Hill Air Force Base and is currently the director of Advanced Memory Dynamics.
"How to Remember the New Testament and General Conference" is available in area bookstores, online at www.cedarfort.com, www.amazon.com, or at 1-800-sky-book. To reach Larsen, directly call 801-497-9768.
