The House on Monday voted 63-6 in favor of a bill to require the state Attorney General to study remedies that may be available for costs associated with illegal immigration.

Rep. Karen Morgan, D-Cottonwood Heights, sponsor of HB320 said federally required services, such as public education, are "born mostly at the state and local levels and they are increasing."

All six of those who voted against the substitute version of the bill were Democrats. The bill, which would require the attorney general to report back to lawmakers on the available remedies, now moves to the Senate.
