ST. GEORGE A man accused of stabbing his estranged wife to death will stand trial on aggravated-murder charges.
Jaime Antonio Lopez Sr., 41, appeared briefly in 5th District Court on Friday and waived his right to a preliminary hearing on charges of aggravated murder, burglary, aggravated assault and child abuse. He will be arraigned on April 20.
St. George police said that Lopez stabbed Maria Rivas to death after confronting her inside her home. Police reports and court documents obtained by the Deseret Morning News indicate Lopez had a jealous temper and believed that she had been cheating on him.
Police said there was no evidence the woman was ever having an affair.
