The winners and the losers

Loser: We're guessing JetBlue officials are working on new company policies that would keep passengers from having to sit on a plane for up to 10 1/2 hours while on the ground and within sight of a terminal. A spokesman acknowledged the airline waited too long to ask the airport for help this week when New York's Kennedy Airport was socked in during a storm. Even doctors don't make people wait that long — not without a large supply of old magazines to read, anyway.

Winner: Congratulations to Charles Denny, a 17-year-old Utahn who now is the World Champion Teen Hoop Dancer. As reported in this newspaper, Denny, a part Ute and part Chippewa-Cree Indian, won a competition in Phoenix earlier this month. He is described as a natural — someone possessing a gift that allows him to perform the sacred native hoop dances at a high level. Thanks to his award and recognition, Denny will likely have many more opportunities to perform in front of large audiences.
