Dixie State

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL: The Dixie State women's basketball team earned a split on its road trip to Arkansas this week, defeating Handerson State 69-58 on Tuesday, following a 67-56 loss to Southern Arkansas on Monday.

Utah

SOFTBALL: Utah (2-2-1 overall) continues its extended preseason road swing when it ventures to Las Vegas for the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic, Saturday through Monday. The Utes will put their two-game winning streak on the line when they play Oklahoma State and Florida International on Saturday, Oregon and Hawaii on Sunday, and Seton Hall on Monday.

Utah State

WOMEN'S TENNIS: Utah State women's tennis will host its fourth home match of the season against Dixie State Friday at 1 p.m. at the Sports Academy and Racquet Club. The Aggies added two losses to their record after returning from Las Vegas last weekend, falling to 2-4.

MEN'S TENNIS: Utah State's Mike Banks has been named the Western Athletic Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week. Banks, a junior from Eagle, Idaho, won both his singles match and his doubles match in a narrow 5-4 team loss to Weber State. The USU tennis team (1-2) returns to action at Idaho State on Feb. 23.

Southern Utah

GOLF: Eric Nilsson has been named the Mid-Continent Conference player of the week for golf. Nilsson, a junior from St. George (Dixie HS), led the Thunderbirds to a team victory with a fourth-place individual showing at the Pat Hicks Invitational. Nilsson finished three shots out of first place.

BASEBALL: Southern Utah scored one run in the third inning Thursday as Cal State Dominquez Hills pitching befuddled Thunderbird bats in the 14-1 loss. The loss drops the Thunderbirds to 0-4 while the Toros improve to 2-4-1.

SOFTBALL: SUU plays in its second tournament in as many weeks this weekend when the Thunderbirds compete in UNLV's Louisville Slugger Tournament. SUU opens the tourney today at 9 a.m. against New Mexico, then meets Illinois at 6 p.m.

BYU

BASEBALL: BYU's game against the Portland Pilots scheduled for Thursday at Joe Etzel Field was rained out. Portland and BYU are still scheduled to play today and finish the series with two games on Saturday.

SOFTBALL: BYU (5-1) came out on the losing end of a pitching duel that saw 21 of the game's first 26 batters retired, dropping its first game of the season 1-0 to Mississippi State (5-1). BYU continues play in the Louisville Slugger Desert Classic in Las Vegas with a double-header today.
