The 17-year-old driver accused of causing an accident that killed several members of Salt Lake family a week ago was charged late Thursday afternoon with several counts of automobile homicide.

Four counts automobile homicide, all second-degree felonies, were filed in 3rd District Juvenile Court. However, Salt Lake District Attorney Lohra Miller also filed a motion seeking to have the teen prosecuted as an adult.

The four counts of automobile homicide include an unborn baby.

Christopher Williams was driving home with his family on 2000 East near 2500 South the night of Feb. 9 when his car was struck by another vehicle. Killed in the accident were his 41-year-old wife Michelle, who was six months pregnant; 11-year-old son Ben; and 9-year-old daughter Anna. Six-year-old Sam Williams remains hospitalized, but has been moved out of intensive care.

In addition to the homicide charges, the Salt Lake City teenager was also charged with third-degree felony DUI resulting in a serious injury; misdemeanor DUI resulting in injury; leaving the scene of an accident, a misdemeanor; and a minor in possession of alcohol, a class B misdemeanor.

Prosecutors say he was nearly twice the legal limit for blood alcohol content.

Services for the Williams will be noon Saturday at the Salt Lake Highland Stake Center, 2700 S. and Filmore Street. The viewing is from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Larkin Sunset Lawn, 2350 E. 1300 South.

A fund to help the family has been set up at Zions Bank.
