A Senate committee on Wednesday sent a resolution calling for the United States to withdraw from a cooperative trade and security agreement to the Rules Committee without debate.

HJR7, sponsored by Rep. Stephen Sandstrom, R-Orem, calls on withdrawal from the Security and Prosperity Partnership of North America. Sandstrom claims the SPP is a first step to a European Union style governance, under which the United States would lose sovereignty to Canada and Mexico.

The Senate Government Operations Committee had originally heard the bill Monday, but held it to give time for public comment. On Wednesday about 50 people were disappointed they still didn't have a chance to speak on the bill.
