The Public Affairs Department of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints revamped its "Newsroom" Web site and officially opened it to the public Thursday.

The site, www.newsroom.lds.org, will serve as the official resource for news media, opinion leaders and the general public.

"The site is designed to provide a fresh stream of information, commentary and news," Mark Tuttle, Utah public affairs director for the church, said in a written statement.

The Web site features news stories, commentary and church positions on public issues and background information. Photos, video and audio are also available.

Previous Web site subscribers will need to re-register.
