Under a bill sponsored by Sen. Curt Bramble, R-Provo, Vineyard city could use redevelopment agency dollars for the former Geneva Steel industrial site.
A provision in current law says an RDA cannot be used for a piece of property that exceeds 10 percent of the total value of the municipality. Bramble's bill, SB218, changes that.
"Down in Vineyard, the abandoned Geneva Steel site, that property far exceeds 10 percent of the value of the town of Vineyard," Bramble said.
In addition, SB218 prohibits a taxing entity from disapproving a blight finding. The bill passed the Senate Government Operations and Political Subdivisions Standing Committee Friday and awaits debate before the full Senate.
