Criminal charges have been filed against the ex-secretary of the Weber School District Foundation.
On Friday, the Weber County Attorney's Office filed numerous charges against Denise Aughney, 46, accusing her of theft, forgery and money laundering. Aughney was booked into the Weber County Jail Friday morning on 57 counts related to the missing money. Her bail was set at $445,000.
Aughney is to appear in Ogden's 2nd District Court on Feb. 13.
In an affidavit filed in response to a civil lawsuit, Aughney admitted taking more than $1 million from the fund-raising arm of the Weber School District.
"Following my confrontation by the School Foundation and the discovery of my activities, I became fearful of how my activities might affect persons whom I love," she wrote.
The Deseret Morning News has obtained six pages of check ledgers, detailing the money that Aughney is accused of taking. The Weber School District Foundation alleges she wrote checks to herself, forging signatures.
